How do I remove rust or paint from my aluminium decking?
The honest answer is that you don’t!
In these circumstances prevention is better than cure and ensuring that your aluminium decking does not become rusty or resisting the urge to paint it, will be better for its longevity and integrity.
Averting rust
The most effective way of preventing rust is to keep your aluminium decking clean and free from debris. This is extremely simple and easy to do with Adek.
Firstly, remove any dirt as soon as possible. This will prevent a build-up of debris or moisture which could cause lasting damage. If you cannot sweep this dirt away, clean water will help to wash it. If water alone is not sufficient, use a non-abrasive soft brush or cloth and a neutral mild household or car wash detergent, following the manufacturer’s instructions. If using a detergent it is recommended to clean a small inconspicuous area first to ensure that no discolour or damage occurs. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly in clean water.
It is important to remember not to use steel wool, scrapers, sandpaper, or scouring liquids or powders, as these will permanently scratch the surface of your aluminium decking. Also, do not use strong solvents, alkaline or acid cleaners and the use of hard water is not recommended.
If you have a specialist finish to the surface of your aluminium decking you should take extra care when cleaning. For both matt and metallic coatings periodic washing with mild detergent, with out any rubbing or polishing, is the best solution.
As a rule, aluminium decking should be cleaned at least once a year. However, if you live in an area where pollutants are more prevalent, for example in coastal or industrial areas, more frequent cleaning should be carried out.

Prevent painting
Aluminium decking does not need to be painted. The construction of the boards makes them extremely durable and long lasting. They do not require any treatments or paints to protect them or make them look more stylish. By painting your aluminium decking you may permanently change the integrity of its surface and cause lasting damage.
